Research and Architecture
The Research and Architecture team incorporates technical resources to research and advise on the development of business solutions for the LGMA and the Local Government sector in general.
- The Development team develops and maintains a number of in-house systems and national business systems for local authorities, such as the Electoral Register and Planning.
- The Open Source Practice Center was established in 2011 to research and promote the use of Open Source technologies and open standards to facilitate cost effective IT solutions for the sector.
The Open Source Practice Centre team is building expertise in various open source technologies and working with interested parties in the local government sector.
The OSPC raises awareness of OS solutions and alternatives to proprietary software. Through regular OS Forums we provide a platform for discussion and collaboration where colleagues from local and central government share their experience of how to harness the opportunities provided by Open Source through a series of presentations, demonstrations and workshops.
The Development team have designed a number of applications used widely in the Local Government sector including Online Expenses, CheckTheRegister and Low Value Purchase Card systems. They are also responsible for further development and maintenance of the Electoral Register and Planning systems.
